How to be a Model

First thing’s first, what is a model? Well, a model is a person with a role either to promote, display or advertise commercial products. They serve as a visual aide for people who are creating works of art or to pose for photography.

Modelling  (modeling in American English) is considered to be different from other types of public performance such as acting or dancing. Although the difference between modelling and performing is not always clear, appearing in a film or a play is not generally considered to be “modeling”.

There are certain types of models, including fashion, glamour, fitness, bikini, fine art, body-part, promotional and commercial and print ad models.

So here are the tips on how you can start a career in modelling.

1 . Have an agent.

Well, that’s the first thing you need to do. You get to know an agent, but be careful cos there’s a bunch of hoax agents around there so check their background first and know if the agency is authentic.

2. Glam up.

This is the hard part, because you always have to look good in every way possible. Of course, nobody wants to cast a model that is not good looking or at least neat and have a sense of style.

3. Know yourself.

You have to know yourself, as i mentioned earlier there are different types of model and there are certain looks that fits to certain model jobs. Like for example, if you’re very tall and have good walk then you fit in the runway on the other hand if you have a gorgeous face but not that tall then you can be a commercial and print ad model.

4. Know the terms!

Well there are a lot of terminologies you need to know, you have to know what’s a TVC is, a “go-see”, a fountain and other stuffs that is used in the modeling world. Well a “go-see” means “go to be seen”. It’s like you go for a screening.

5. Be better at locating places.

Your agency is actually the one who’ll find you jobs but in order to book them your the one who have to go there and if you’re unable to locate the go-see your agent set you up. Well, how can you book that job?

6. The portfolio.

A portfolio is a compilation of the best photos you’ve done. But if you’re only starting you have to do it, you can set an appointment to photographers in order for you to have photos. Choose the best one and put it on your setcard. A setcard is like a summary of your portfolio, it’s a printed photo that includes your close-up and whole body shot, and also includes your basic information such as your name, age, weight, height and your contact information. (Extra tip: you need to print out a lot of setcards cos usually you will give them to the clients).

7. Know the basic modelling skills.

Well, basically you need the how to’s like how you will act during the photoshoot, know how to do the catwalk, know how to act during VTR’s and a lot of stuffs. You need to know how to model essentially! Sometimes your agency will enroll you to workshops but the skills you’ll learn is always up to you on how will you grow.

8. Fake it till you make it.

Sounds odd, but you really need to fake it like if the client is looking for sporty guy/girl and you’re not then you need to act as if you are a sporty guy/girl. Did you get my point?

Well that is the basic things for now. if you have something much more to say then feel free to comment on the comment section below. So i can add it up to this article. So good luck if you’re pursuing a career in modelling!
